“Believe you
can, and you are halfway there” (Theodore Roosevelt). Humans
like other animals are creatures of habit. In general habits take a long time
to develop but one we develop them they become an important part of who we are.
According to Warren Buffet, “Chains of Habit are too light to be felt until
they are too heavy to be broken”. Bad habits just like good habits can have
impact out life to a great extent but these habits can be changed. Smoking had been a leading cause of deaths for
a long time. Smoking on average causses
480,000 deaths per year alone in United States (“Fast Facts”). Quitting smoking is not an easy job, but
with determination and insistence ever thing is possible. However, there are
few steps you should follow to achieve this goal.
Like
any process quitting smoking is no easy task and requires a solid step by step
plan to be able to fight the urges of smoking again. The first step to be taken
is to set a timeline for yourself. Set a date when you will start your journey
to quit smoking. Setting a date to act will be a factor of motivation for you.
Alongside that, you can ask your family and friends to keep an eye over you and
help you quit.
The second part of the process is recognizing your triggers that make you want to smoke and tracking the cigarettes that you smoke. According to the Truth Initiative organization, that identifying your trigger is helpful for quitting smoking. The habit of smoking is usually a consequence of something personal and emotional that bothers one. After identifying these triggers than whenever you feel getting triggered distraction can be used to keep your focus elsewhere.
The last step
of the process is that you need to educate about your addiction. Smoking is a
physical addiction that effects the persons health badly and can result in life
threating problems. Understanding the consequences can act as a motivation to
stop.
As mentioned before, quitting smoking is not an easy job, but by
following this process, hopefully you will be able to quit smoking. Smoking is
not just a bad habit, it is more than that, it eats the person from inside
causing them to live a life or troubles and poor health.
